Feed Me or the Nurse Gets It

During that first doctor's appointment we found out that something wasn't right and that was the reason we hadn't yet conceived. We also found out that most fertility specialists spend their days making guesses and get paid a lot of money for it. It appeared that there was a mass of some sort in my uterus, but without the proper procedure the doctor was unable to know exactly what the mass was. It could have been fibroids, polyps or any other number of things. So, the next step was to schedule an HSG to make sure my tubes weren't blocked as well. During an HSG, dye is injected into the uterus and through the fallopian tubes. While the dye is injected, x-rays are being taken. The results of my HSG indicated that my tubes were, in fact, fine and that didn't seem to be an issue. That was good news!

The next step was to schedule a laparoscopy, the only way to correctly diagnose certain fertility issues. My surgery was scheduled on a weekday at 2 in the afternoon. I was told not to drink or eat after midnight the night before. Anyone who knows me, knows I like to eat and I was not a happy camper. How could I possibly go 14 hours without a drink or a bite to eat. The travesty! So, I suffer through a 1/2 day's work and show up promptly at 12:30 pm for my surgery. Of course, you have to show up even earlier so you can sit in the waiting room for 1.5 hours and think about the fact that you haven't eaten in 12 hours.

So, Brett and I sit reading in the waiting room for 90 minutes and at 2 PM still find ourselves sitting in the waiting room. Okay, no problem, they are running a little late. Someone will come to get me soon, I'm sure of it. Not only did someone NOT come to get me, but we sat in the waiting room for another 2 hours before anyone even acknowledged my existence. Okay, 16 hours with no food and 3.5 hours to think about not having food. I am not a happy camper! Finally at 4:30 PM, I am taken back by the most annoying nurse ever to prepare for my surgery and get my IV started.

To be continued...
